Due to increasingly stringent Visa/Mastercard regulations, we have decided to no longer build and host ecommerce sites. Sites that use
shopping carts such as osCommerce and ZenCart must be linked to a merchant account payment gateway in order to accept payments. Visa/MC require
that extra steps be taken to secure the information being passed from the site to the gateway. Ensuring that your site meets Visa/MC regulations,
can often add hundreds of dollars to the yearly cost of operating an ecommerce site. Failure to meet these requirements could lead to
you being held liable for any intercepted transactions.
Official Visa/MC regulations can be reviewed here
Although we no longer build Ecommerce sites, the carts mentioned above, are still offered as Fantastico applications in our DIY hosting plans. We do not provide any support for either of these applications or the databases required to operate them.
What we can offer in the way of Ecommerce
If you need the functionality of a shopping cart, we can add a PayPal shopping cart or individual PayPal buttons to your site.
We are okay with doing this, because PayPal is responsible for meeting all of the security guidelines set forth by Visa and Mastercard. You do lose some consistency across your site by using a 3rd party processor like PayPal, but you also "lose" much of the responsibility you would have if using your own merchant account.
If you still need or want a dedicated shopping cart application, let us know, we can recommend a couple of providers and give you some additional information regarding setting up ecomm sites.
